Wow! or: I love snail mail :-)

Yesterday I received a letter from the lovable Lynne and I am still overwhelmed with joy.

First I didn't try to open it because it looked so nice. But sure I was bursting with curiosity.

And look what was inside - the butterfly girl!

... and Chloe and the little ones, and two muslims for me to try out. (Sure I will do Lynne.) It's like having new housemates - very special ones - they bring positive vibrations to my home; soft and tender and with their own secret.

If you don't know Lynnes Blog by now have a look soon - she really has a rich world to offer.

And this Lynne is just for you and me - to celebrate yesterday ;-).

Glückskastanie - chestnut superstition

This is the first chestnut I found this year on my way to work. Every year the first chestnut I keep in my jacket pocket till the next autumn and I know she will bring me luck.
Last night I read a book of Wilhelm Genazino and found a very nice passage about chestnuts - I posted it here.

Dies ist die erste Kastanie, die ich in diesem Jahr gefunden habe. Es ist ein kleines Spiel, ein kleiner Aberglaube von mir; die erste Kastanie des Jahres verwahre ich in meiner Jackentasche bis zum nächsten Herbst und sie bringt mir Glück.
Gestern Nacht habe ich in einem Buch von Wilhelm Genazino dann noch eine sehr schöne Stelle gefunden, in der es auch um Kastanien geht - schaut mal hier.

Two Tomatoes

You missed me? I weren't on holiday but had a lot of things to structure and no untroubled time for painting. But yesterday in one hour - guess this is my fastest painting - I painted these very delicious tomatoes fresh from the garden; the last ones of this summer I suppose.

Hallo, habt Ihr mich vermisst? Leider hatte ich keinen Urlaub, wie man hätte annehmen können, sondern viele Dinge zu regeln, so dass ich keine ungestörte Zeit zum malen hatte. Gestern jedoch habe ich innerhalb einer Stunde - wohl eines meiner schnellsten Bilder - diese leckeren Tomaten, frisch aus dem Garten, gemalt; es sind wohl die letzten dieses Sommers.

Forgotten Figs

This is my painting for the new challenge of "Paint and Draw Together" by Lela Stankovic. Have a look at the Blog - it's worth it - nice participants, interesting paintings and always a good origin.
I tried hard to get a good photo of my painting because the colour is still wet and the dark parts reflect the light too much but I think this is near to the original. I started with an acrylic and used the following oil colours to continue: titan white, lemon yellow (I like the green tones mixed from this with black), yellow ochre, burnt sienna, alizarin crimson, ultramarin and black.
And I found my painting for the last challenge which still isn't ready. It was a sweet little duck. I don't know how I could forget about it - the little duck were gone underground without telling me - I will finish it and post it soon. 

Dies also ist mein Beitrag für "Paint and Draw Together" von Lela Stankovic. Es lohnt sich einen Blick auf den Blog zu werfen - nette Teilnehmer, interessante Bilder und immer eine gute Vorlage.
Erneut war es schwierig ein gutes Photo des Bildes zu machen, da die Farbe noch immer nass ist und die dunklen Bereiche das Licht reflektieren, aber es ähnelt dem Originalbild nun doch sehr. Begonnen habe ich erneut mit einer Untermalung aus Acryl um dann mit folgenden Ölfarben weiter zu machen: Titanweiß, Zitronengelb (ich mag die Grüntöne, die sich in Kombination mit Schwarz daraus mischen lassen sehr), Ocker, gebr. Sienna, Alizarin Krimson, Ultramarinblau und eben Schwarz.
Und ich habe auch mein Bild für den vorangegangenen Wettbewerb wieder gefunden. Es war eine süße, kleine Ente. Ich weiß nicht, wie ich sie vergessen konnte - sie war sozusagen abgetaucht ohne mir etwas davon zu sagen, aber ich werde das Bild noch beenden und in Kürze einstellen.

Pflaumen

Today some plums - only this picture remained of them. I love the velvet of their waxed protective layer. To catch this colour was the cause of painting them.

Heute mal einige Pflaumen - nur dies Bild ist von ihnen geblieben. Ich liebe die samtig wirkende Wachsschutzschicht. Diese Farbe darzustellen war der eigentliche Anlass für das Bild.

Red Hot Chillies

Some red chillies from the garden of my parents. They are very, very hot.
After more than two weeks I had some time to paint again finally. And this is the result of todays painting session. I only used six colours (white, lemon yellow, cadmium red, alizarin crimson, phtalo blue red shade and black) which is less for me. I started with an acryl underpainting for getting relaxed and then I tried to paint fast and less detailed as I always try to do. This time it works.

Einige rote Chillischoten aus dem Garten meiner Eltern. Sie sind höllisch scharf.
Nach mehr als zwei Wochen hatte ich endlich wieder ein bisschen Zeit zum malen.Und dies ist das Ergebnis von heute. Ich habe "nur" sechs Farben (s.o.) benutzt, was für mich eher wenig ist. Begonnen habe ich mit einer Untermalung aus Acryl, sozusagen zum locker werden. Weiterhin versuche ich jedes mal aufs Neue schneller und nicht so detailliert zu malen. Das hat diesmal ganz gut geklappt.

"mein Weg" in Le Pouget

This is "my path" in Le Pouget. Different times I tried to paint it because this place is very important to me (see also older post). It was high up on the hill, a stony path surrounded by grasses, heather, bigger stones with lichens and lots of bumble bees. I also had a big stone for laying in the sun from where I could see everything around - but nobody could see me.

Dies ist "mein Weg" in Le Pouget. Bereits mehrere Male habe ich versucht ihn zu malen, da er sehr wichtig für mich ist (siehe auch älterer Post). Der Weg verlief hoch oben auf dem Berg; ein steiniger Weg umgeben von verschiedenen Gräsern, Heidekraut, größeren mit Flechten bewachsenen Steinen und vielen Hummeln. Ich hatte mir auch einen großen Stein zum Sonnenbaden ausgesucht von dem aus ich alles überblicken konnte, ohne das man mich hätte sehen können.

Stillleben 2010 auf der A40/B1 - Rückblick

Little retrospect of the last sunday where we had the Stillleben 2010 on "our" freeway A40. It connects lots of cities and were closed over a distance of about 60 km. (For more information and pictures have a look here or here (pictures). 20 000 tables were established - from Duisburg to Dortmund.
My husband and I started late from home and they wont let us on the road first because it was crowded. (I never saw so much cyclist. The picture above shows a non crowded part of the road.) So we sidled trough a field to reach the happening. It was really great, we met some friends and saw a lot of interesting things and people - musicians, crazy people, dancing people, people who celebrated their birthday and so on..... Very important equipment nearly on every table were something cold to drink, sunmilk and cakes. :-)

Ein kleiner Rückblick zum Stillleben 2010 auf der A40, meist eher B1 genannt. Es ist ja "die" Strasse, die alles im Ruhrgebiet verbindet und meistens verstopft ist. Von Duisburg bis Dortmund war die B1 nun gesperrt, 20 000 Tische waren aufgebaut und der Besucherandrang enorm, es sollen mehr als 3 Millionen Leute dort gewesen sein. Mein Mann und ich sind spät von zu Hause gestarte und zuerst wollte man uns gar nicht mehr auf die B1 lassen, da bereits alles überfüllt war. Wir haben uns dann über einige Schleichwege doch vorgekämpft. Noch nie habe ich so viele Radfahrer auf einen Haufen gesehen. Wir haben Freunde getroffen und jede Menge interessante Dinge und Leute gesehen - so Musiker, verrückte Leute, tanzende Leute, Geburtstagskinder, usw. Es war wirklich toll. Besonders wichtig an diesem Tag und daher auch auf vielen Tischen zu finden: kalte Getränke, Sonnenmilch und Kuchen. :-)

This is my painting for Lela Stankovic's "Paint and Draw Together" Blog. I tried to work fast but had problems again with the green colour - as always. But I like the result. Have a look at the other artists on Lelas Blog also - it's interesting to see the different results.

Dies ist meine Version für Lela Stankovic's "Paint and Draw Together" Blog. Ich habe versucht recht schnell zu arbeiten und hatte, wie so oft einige Probleme mit der Farbe Grün. Aber das Ergebnis gefällt mir doch ganz gut. Schaut Euch doch auch die Bilder der anderen Teilnehmer auf Lelas Blog an - es ist interessant die unterschiedlichen Versionen zu sehen.

Henry Miller - varicoloured

This is a little painting I started a few weeks ago and had some hard fight with. I tried to paint it in a realistic manner but it always ended in chaos and Henry looked real terrible. And that's the opposite of what I intended because my painting should be a little blessing to him - as I told in another post I began to read my Henry Miller Books again, started with "The rosy crucification" (Sexus, Plexus, Nexus).
One evening I got really angry about the painting and this was the turning point. I only used three colours (and white) to continue (see also my little experience here) and I think and hope he would like it to be varicoloured like that.

Vor einigen Wochen habe ich mit diesem kleinen Bild begonnen und lange gekämpft. Es sollte ein eher realistisches Portrait werden sah aber mehr und mehr schrecklich aus. Dabei wollte ich doch das Gegenteil erreichen, ein hübsches Bild als kleine Lobpreisung an Henry Miller, von dessen Werk ich erneut begeistert bin - wie ich in einem anderen Post bereits erwähnte habe ich begonnen alle meine Bücher von ihm erneut zu lesen, angefangen mit "The rosy crucification" (Sexus, Plexus, Nexus).
An einem Abend, an dem mich das Bild wirklich wütend gemacht hat, kam der Wendepunkt. Erneut habe ich mit nur drei Farben (und Weiß) weiter gearbeitet (siehe auch mein kleines Experiment hier) und ich denke und hoffe Henry wäre mit dem Ergebnis so bunt zu sein auch ganz zufrieden.
